Together with HUB France team, we present you with a project that is long awaited in the north of the country, and which has recently entered the construction phase: the Thionville-Metzange parking-relais.
What is a parking-relais? It is the equivalent of a park & ride area, i.e. a parking zone that allows you to come and park your vehicle and continue your journey by using another means of transport. On the Thionville project, the P & R is intended for subscribers to cross-border bus lines (300 and 301) to several destinations on the Luxembourg side.
The parking lot will be laid out on two terraces, separated by a natural slope, and will total 750 parking spaces for cars and bicycles. It will be served by the border and intercity bus lines, and will be free of charge for bus subscribers.
Here's a video link to the early work stages of the project.
HUB systems will play a crucial role in making the access to both parking terraces, easy and frictionless. While this is an advantage that any driver on earth would like to find, it is even more impactful on a multimodal transportation site: navigating the way to the right lane, car park zone, nested area, and ultimately up to the free space must be as straightforward and quick as possible. Less driving and less idling time required in search of parking will also have a positive impact on the environmental footprint of the site!
Park & ride will definitely relieve the travel of border workers, and ease the traffic off this strategic route.
